History Slam 2025!

What a great event! All our slammers performed an entertaining and well executed three minutes of Western Australian history. It would not have been a success without them, or the 70+ strong audience who cheered and jeered in all the right places!

Great job by event coordinators Julie Lunn and Sian Ferraz, and Malcolm Traill as MC. Huge congratulations to the storytellers: Mike and Joy Lefroy (1st prize), Lucy Hair (2nd), Joanna Sassoon (3rd), Leigh Barrett, Mary Blight, Steve Brown, Jim Crandell, Sooz Dalgleish, Eddie Marcus, Michael Nind, Elly Spillekom and Malcolm Traill.

Thanks to the State Heritage Conference for allowing us to run this event as part of the conference program and staff at DPLH for promotion, venue, catering and prizes (Heritage Council of WA’s ‘A Thematic History of Western Australia’).

Given the fantastic response we may have to consider adding a History Slam to our annual calendar of events!

Our MC Malcolm Traill.
Mike and Joy Lefroy with Julie, PHA (WA) event coordinator. Their tale about the Catalpa Escape won the day.
Lucy Hair took out 2nd prize with her tale ‘Discovering Mrs McMaster’ – a hit for highlighting how easily women are overlooked in history.
Congrats to 3rd place winner Joanna Sassoon and her Dirty Story!
