Job Opportunity
The City of Cockburn is seeking a heritage consultant to prepare an Interpretation Plan for Azelia Ley Homestead Museum. The Museum houses an extensive range of objects which have been collected over a 40-year period by the Historical Society of Cockburn. The initial objectives for the Plan are as follows:
- Identify key themes that pertain to the Homestead and the History and Cultural Heritage of Cockburn.
- Identify and group objects in the collection that relate to said themes.
- Identify themes which are significant to the story of Cockburn, but do not have any representation, or minimal representation in the current collection, to inform future collecting strategy. Where possible, intangible cultural heritage as it relates to our movable heritage collection or key stories of Cockburn should be incorporated into these themes, such as oral histories recorded through our Local History collection.
- Creating a display plan, including external interpretive assets to enhance overall interaction with site, and increase visitation. Primarily, looking at the display of the current collection, and arranging objects to better reflect the themes outlined in the above section.
- In conjunction with display plan, developing a plan for interactives for visitor use, and identify objects suitable for deaccession or continued use for education resources.
- Creating a plan for activation of outbuildings: Stables, Outhouse, Coach Quarters, Storehouse, and possible increased interpretation assets for the Well, Windmill, and a particular focus on interpretation on the non-native Gardens and trees on the grounds
The City of Cockburn is looking to gauge a rough estimate for pricing, and whether you might have scope to undertake the project in late 2024/early 2025. We would expect the duration of the project at this stage to be roughly six months.
If you are interested, please contact Tony Bird at the City of Cockburn ASAP on tbird@cockburn.wa.gov.au or 9411 3444 to register your interest. The City is looking to apply for a grant which needs to be submitted by 5 August 2024.
