History Slam 180! PHA (WA) @ Perth Heritage Days 2017
Professional Historians Association WA
“History from New Perspectives” – History Slam –
Date: Sunday 15th October
Time: 3pm
Venue: Downstairs at the Maj, Perth
On the back of its successful first ever History Slam presented in the 2016 Perth Heritage Days Festival, PHA WA is pleased to announce the History Slam is back for 2017.
Premised on the popular poetry slam concept – in which poets have 3 minutes to enthral, excite, provoke and amaze their audience to gain the winning edge – the History Slam gathers a variety of participants from all walks of life to share their special moment of “history” and what they find when they dig into the past: the amazing, sad, funny, poignant, tragic, weird, touching, bizarre, shocking and unexpected.
The slam aims to bring together historians as well as those from other disciplines who have undertaken historical research or investigation for a variety of purposes – plays, novels, journalism, guided walks, exhibitions, archaeology, radio broadcasting, paranormal investigations, conservation work etc. The slam aims to promote history and research into our past as exciting, intriguing, emotive, creative and relevant, to reflect on how important these discoveries can so often be no matter how small and to encourage debate, different perspectives and discussion.
This year an audience choice award for the best slam will be given out, and after the slam we will invite our presenters and audience to join together for a beverage and banter.
